North Aurora special census to start Sept. 1

A special census will take place starting Sept. 1 in several North Aurora neighborhoods.

Federal Census enumerators will ask questions primarily in the Randall Highlands and Mirador subdivisions, and parts of Orchard Estates, Orchard Crossings and Unit 6 of Tanner Trails.

All workers will have identification badges. They will ask five questions about each person living in a household, a process that should take about 10 minutes. All answers are private.

The census is being done because those areas grew significantly since 2010. With state and federal money disbursement determined on a per-person basis, the village wants an updated figure.

It is paying about $51,000 to conduct the census. It expects to find an additional 531 people living in town, which could mean the village would receive an additional $77,000 a year.

For more information, call the village at (630) 897-8228.
