Des Plaines Subway restaurant robbed at gunpoint

A man armed with a handgun robbed a Des Plaines Subway restaurant of more than $400 early Sunday morning, according to a police report.

The Des Plaines police report states the man entered the restaurant at 2096 Miner St. about 3 a.m. Sunday and began to buy a bag of potato chips. When the clerk began to make change for the purchase, the man drew a handgun from his jacket and told the employee, "Give me all the money," the report says.

The clerk placed the cash register tray on the counter, and the robber took about $400 and two envelopes containing an unknown amount of cash, police said. The robber then left, got into a four-door sedan and drove away west on Rand Road, according to the police report.

The robber was described as a black man, about 40 years old, standing about 5-feet, 7 inches and weighing about 145 pounds. He was wearing blue/gray jacket with black sleeves, blue jeans and a black baseball cap with the Chicago Bulls logo on it.
