10 years in prison for $1.4 million marijuana bust near Aurora

A 64-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to his role in a $1.4 million, 157-pound marijuana bust near Aurora, according to Kane County court records.

Jaime Guillen-Hernandez, of Mexico, pleaded guilty to possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, a felony that carried a top prison term of 30 years.

He was one of four people arrested Dec. 8, 2015, after Kane County sheriff's deputies saw a suspected drug deal being made in a parking lot off Interstate 88 and Farnsworth Avenue.

Deputies pulled over a Jeep as it left the area, seizing the marijuana and arresting the driver.

Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler approved the plea agreement, which also includes $7,355 in fines and fees.

Luis M. Garcia, 54, of Bolingbrook - and the driver of the Jeep - pleaded guilty last month to possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Sergo N. Delgadillo-Alvarez, 43, and Ruben D. Guillen-Hernandez, 55, both of Mexico, also face charges of cannabis trafficking. They have courts dates of Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, respectively. Both were being held at the Kane County jail.

Jaime Guillen-Hernandez likely will be deported after his prison term, which can be cut in half for good behavior. He also gets credit for nearly nine months served at the county jail.
