The Waukegan Park District's second annual Touch a Truck event is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 12, 5 to 7 p.m. at Belvidere Park, 412 S. Lewis Ave. Combined with the event this year are child safety day, parks and play, and the movie "Minions," which will be shown at dusk. All activities are free. Touch a Truck allows children and adults to get up close and explore public service, fire, police, construction and utility trucks. Children will be able to touch and climb on the vehicles, honk horns and ask questions about their favorite trucks. Accompanying personnel will talk with attendees about the equipment displayed and how these machines help the community. The event is open to all ages. Confirmed trucks to be at the event include: Waukegan Fire Department trucks and fire safety house, Waukegan Police Department squad car, Lake County sheriff's office armored vehicle, SWAT Mobile Command Center, a police evidence truck and more.
