Police: Woman killed after ex-boyfriend runs into rear of motorcycle

A 23-year-old Waukegan woman was killed after her estranged boyfriend drove a car into the rear of the motorcycle she was riding on as a passenger, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 2 a.m. Saturday at McAlister and Helmholtz avenues in Waukegan, authorities said in a news release Tuesday.

Marco A. Garcia-Escobar, 31, of the 1400 block of Glen Rock Avenue, was driving the car at a high rate of speed south on McAlister when he hit the motorcycle from behind, authorities said.

Gloria I. Moreno-Castro, 23, was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries. She was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.

The 27-year-old male driver of the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital, authorities said.

Authorities said Garcia-Escobar and Moreno-Castro had a dating relationship and have a child together.

Police believe Garcia-Escobar went to Moreno-Castro's house just before the crash and saw her leave on the motorcycle. Garcia-Escobar was chasing the motorcycle before the collision on McAlister Avenue, police said.

Garcia-Escobar was charged with reckless homicide, aggravated reckless driving, driving without a valid driver's license, and driving without insurance, authorities said.

He is held in Lake County jail on $150,000 bail, authorities said.

He is due back in court Aug. 12.
