Sedgebrook residents honor Lincolnshire police

Residents at the Sedgebrook senior living community in Lincolnshire recently honored local police for their service.

On July 25, 12 residents from the senior living community took fresh-baked cookies to the police department.

"They are so deserving of our gratitude," said Ryan Springer, community resources manager of Sedgebrook. "There's been a lot of sadness and tension in this country, and there has been a lot of hostility directed at police officers. At Sedgebrook, the residents and staff really value our wonderful relationship with the Lincolnshire Police Department. We wanted to show them our appreciation and thank them for serving and protecting us, and let them know that we value them and the hard and stressful work they do."

Springer said the police officers on duty were very thankful and generous with their time that day.

The Sedgebrook residents spent more than an hour touring the police station, including the interrogation room, holding cells and the inside of some police cruisers.

"We learned a lot about the behind-the-scenes work and we were very grateful for their time," Springer said.

In turn, Sedgebrook regularly hosts Lincolnshire police officials for the Coffee with a Cop program with residents when police officers discuss a variety of topics relating to security and safety. The August topic will be self-defense.

"Our visit to the Lincolnshire Police Department was a great way for the Sedgebrook community and the L.P.D. to continue our great relationship," said Springer.
