Hearing on District 211 transgender lawsuit set for Aug. 15

Arguments for and against a preliminary injunction to indefinitely suspend an agreement allowing a transgender student limited access to a girls locker room in Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 will be heard at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

Two religious freedom organizations filed a lawsuit on behalf of a group of parents and students against District 211 and the federal departments of education and justice in early May.

The plaintiffs argue that the agreement between District 211 and the federal departments, allowing access to a girls locker room by one transgender student who was born biologically male, represents a misinterpretation of the federal Title IX law prohibiting discrimination based on sex.
