Cops to serve at Carpentersville Culver's for Special Olympics fundraiser

Badges and burgers will go together this month at the Culver's along the Randall Road corridor in Carpentersville.

The restaurant is hosting its annual Tip A Cop Fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Funds raised at the event will go toward the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics.

The goal is to raise $1,500 for the cause, said officer Joe Pilarski from the Carpentersville Police Department, who helps spearhead many of the fundraisers for Special Olympics.

The fundraiser at the Carpentersville Culver's is always a popular one, and helps raise much needed funds for the cause.

"The money goes to help those with physical and mental disabilities," Pilarski said. "This way it gives them a support avenue to get help."

To collect the money, officers from the department will be bussing tables, serving food and running out drive-through orders to customers at the Culver's at 8000 Miller Road.

Culver's owner Serena Michels said the restaurant has hosted many community fundraisers, and donated more than $100,000 to community groups over the past 14 years.

The Tip A Cop fundraiser is always a well-attended, she said, with many people wanting to come help out and meet the officers who are working in the restaurant that night, and also to help the cause.

Many patrons tip the officers too as they are working in the restaurant that night, with all of the funds going toward Special Olympics.

The restaurant will donate 10 percent of their actual sales from 4 to 8 p.m. that night to the department for Special Olympics.

The folks at Culver's also will give $1 to the cause for any medium concrete mixer purchased that night, Michels said.

If you can't make it out for the Special Olympics fundraiser that night, she said, you still can give to the cause.

Throughout the month of August, the Culver's in Carpentersville will have a tip jar up front so anyone can put in a cash donation at any time, she said.

"We want to help," Michels said.
