Show support for Bartlett's 'Men and Women in Blue'

Saturday, July 30, marks Victory Centre of Bartlett's fourth annual Block Party for residents, family and neighbors with members of the Bartlett Police and Fire departments as special guests.

Held in conjunction with National Night Out - an event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie - the Block Party provides the perfect opportunity for the community to come together in a show-of-support for Bartlett first responders while having a good time.

"It's very sad the way things are going today," said Sue Shoemaker, 71, of Victory Centre of Bartlett. "I think that this type of event is so needed, especially with how much officers are put down and all of the negativity around. This is our way of saying thank you for putting your lives on the line. Public servants are awesome."

The Block Party will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Victory Centre of Bartlett, 1101 W. Bartlett Road. Festivities include a bar-b-que, bounce house, firetruck, clown and live music by a DJ.

Entry is free, but guests can make a donation of a nonperishable food item for the Hanover Township Food Pantry.

The party gives Victory Centre residents and neighbors of all ages the chance to interact with each other, police officers and firefighters in a laid-back, fun environment instead of only meeting in cases of emergencies and crisis.

Police officer and firefighters regularly visit Victory Centre of Bartlett, often for emergencies, but sometimes to give presentations on senior scams or for a warm bowl of soup and conversation. Shoemaker and other residents say that under all circumstances the officers are always kind and courteous.

"It's a special evening, and I look forward to it," said Shoemaker, who has attended the three previous block parties.

The public is invited. For information, call Victory Centre of Bartlett at (630) 213-0100.

Victory Centre of Bartlett assisted living and senior apartment community, 1101 W. Bartlett Road, provides quality residential accommodations, amenities and support services at affordable prices for area seniors.
