Des Plaines hires new community development boss

Des Plaines has hired a new director of community and economic development, who has more than 20 years of experience in the field, officials said.

Mike McMahon introduced himself to aldermen Monday, though his first official day isn't until July 25.

McMahon was director of community development in Channahon from 2006 to 2014, and worked in similar roles in Winter Haven, Florida from 2001 to 2006, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He replaces George Sakas, who stepped down in April and became village administrator in Gilberts.

Des Plaines official resigns
