Save-A-Pet gives injured kitten second chance

Submitted by Save-A-Pet

Laying on the side of the road, clinging to life, many wondered if the helpless, 4-month-old kitten had any chance of survival.

Wooly Nelson was brought to Save-A-Pet in the hope he could be saved. He was then immediately brought to a local emergency vet clinic. After examination, it was discovered all of his legs were broken and he suffered from severe road burn.

He underwent surgery and stayed hospitalized for two weeks at the emergency vet clinic. The mission of Save-A-Pet was put to the test that day: "Help, Heal, Home." This unwavering commitment is what drove the team to do everything possible to ensure Wooly would have a second chance at life.

There's a long road ahead for Wooly. He has external and internal hardware in place to help him heal. Three of his legs are bandaged, which makes it impossible for him to stand, eat on his own or use his litter box without assistance.

His fourth leg has major tendon damage that may lead to amputation. There are months of physical therapy in his future. Through it all, the volunteers and staff at Save-A-Pet are working tirelessly to provide Wooly a safe haven, with all the care necessary for a long and happy future.

In just the short time since Wooly was brought to Save-A-Pet, he has made tremendous strides toward recovery. Although he's unable to walk, that doesn't stop him from doing what kittens do best: play.

He loves to lay on his blankets, roll onto his back and paw at the toys above him. His eyes are bright, and his disposition is positive and loving.

Save-A-Pet will never give up on the injured, neglected, abused, or the lost. This mission would not be a reality without the people who make it possible. Because of those who give their time and donations, Wooly will one day be fully healed and find a forever home in which he can run, play and be loved unconditionally.
