Lombard driver services facility fully reopens Tuesday
After nearly two months of inconvenience to drivers, the Lombard driver services facility will be back in full service Tuesday morning.
The facility closed May 25, due to broken heating and air conditioning systems. It partially reopened June 18, but only for drivers needing vehicle stickers.
Secretary of State spokesman Dave Druker said the facility, 837 S. Westmore-Meyers Road, will reopen with all services at 8 a.m. Regular hours will resume, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Druker said the property owner ran into some problems with the installation of the new systems, which delayed the reopening, but everything has now been repaired. The state rents the facility, and the property owner is responsible for the repairs.
“The temperature is very comfortable in there, they tell me, and it will get a good test later this week,” he said.
For weeks, there were rumors circulating about the facility possibly closing for good, due to the state's late rent payments to driver service facility landlords, but Druker said that was never the case with the Lombard location.
“There had been some speculation that maybe Lombard wasn't going to reopen because the state owes money on the facility,” he said. “They've been good throughout this process. We appreciate their patience in terms of that money issue.”
The facility serves about 550 customers per day on the driver services side and about 1,000 customers per day on the vehicle services side.
