Countryside man charged with killing Hanover Park man in June

Hanover Park resident was shot June 6 in Chicago's South Loop

A Countryside man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old Hanover Park man in Chicago's South Loop on June 6.

Noberto Frausto, 37, was apprehended in Ingham County, Michigan, on Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder, according to Chicago police.

Frausto is accused of firing several shots into the pickup truck containing Sami Salaymeh and three other people while on the 2300 block of South Michigan Avenue around 4 a.m.

Salaymeh was shot twice in the stomach, and a 23-year-old woman in the car also sustained gunshot wounds, according to police.

The victims drove to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where Salaymeh was pronounced dead at 4:41 a.m. June 6.

Frausto has been returned to Illinois from Michigan and is being held without bail in the Cook County jail, at 26th Street and California Avenue in Chicago, until his next hearing Aug. 3.

"Our family will never be whole again, but having him locked up and charged with the murder of Sami and attempted murder of three others will bring a little bit of closure," Omar Salaymeh, brother of Sami Salaymeh, said in an email to the Daily Herald.

"This tragic event has brought our family closer together and made us appreciate each other more. You never know what today will bring so make sure you tell everyone close to you that you love them.

"I never told Sami that often. Sami, I love you."
