Buffalo Grove honored for snow removal

The Buffalo Grove Public Works Department has received the 2016 Excellence in Snow and Ice Control award from the American Public Works Association.

The award was established to encourage best practices that lead to excellence in snow and ice removal, taking into account efforts to minimize the impact of these services on the environment.

The village's public works department is responsible for 114 miles of road, which encompasses 522 plowing miles to clear of ice and snow. Additionally, there are 369 cul-de-sacs and six municipal parking lots to clear, as well as parking lots that serve Pace Bus and Metra Rail.

Buffalo Grove averages more than 38 inches of snow per year.
