Solo earns 100th international shutout

Hope Solo breathed a sigh of relief after Saturday's U.S. women's soccer team victory against South Africa at Soldier Field.

Unlike many of her teammates, she won't have to sweat out Sunday.

Solo became the first goalkeeper to earn her 100th international shutout and claimed her 150th victory with the 1-0 win against South Africa.

"I'm glad it's over with. It feels good," Solo said, wearing a T-shirt to commemorate the shutout milestone. "Honestly, I'm just really proud of it. I'm really happy about it."

"Her legacy is set," Ellis added. "She has consistently been one of the top keepers, not just for us but in the world. She is. She's a tremendous, world-class goalkeeper, and I think her performance last year in the World Cup was fantastic. I just think she's a player who goes into those big moments and gets better. It's remarkable what she's achieved."

There weren't many big moments in Saturday's game for Solo. She made just 2 routine saves while her teammates kept most of the action at the other end of the field.

The United States, the world's top-ranked team, had some trouble solving the defense for No. 52 South Africa. Crystal Dunn's goal in the 35th minute was all the Americans could manage in a lackluster game.

"It wasn't our best performance," Ellis said. "I think the send-off scenario, when sometimes especially they're competing for a spot and they're about to find out if they make it ... I just think there's a lot of components in their minds today."

Solo can rest easy now, her spot on the Olympic team seemingly secure. Ellis said she will call each of the 24 players on the current roster Sunday and tell them if they are among the 18 going to Brazil. The official announcement will come at a later date.
