Menacerno, Tanks and more

It's been a while since Irish rock band the Cranberries has released any new music, but the new EP by local rockers Menacerno, "In No Place," just might scratch that itch. Lead vocalist Maggie O'Keefe's dreamy, ethereal vocals resonate with emotion in the style of Dolores O'Riordan (minus the brogue) and provide a lilting counterpoint to Pete Neumer and Brian Watson's driving guitars, Joe Martinez's deep bass and Wheaton native Matt Buckingham's rhythmic drumplay. But don't be fooled by the comforting melodies on the first track "Up In Arms." Spin up "Gemini" and you'll see exactly how hard this band can rock. Get a taste of the new tunes at an EP release party when the band teams up with fellow artists Hyperplane, Hard Kiss, Red Jr. and headliner Tanks & Guns, featuring Elk Grove's Rob Pesce and Schaumburg's Matt Dailly, for a night of rock at Chicago's esteemed Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Chicago. $12-$15; (773) 549-4140 or etix.com. 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9
