Candace Parker's grandmother, of Huntley, found safe in Joliet

The grandmother of WNBA player and former Naperville Central star Candace Parker was found in Joliet on Tuesday night after she was reported missing on the Fourth of July after police said she failed to show up at a relative's home.

At about 8 p.m. Tuesday, Joliet police received a call from an Applebee's restaurant about a confused woman. Once they spoke to the woman, Joliet police identified her as Joan Potter.

Huntley police and Potter's family were contacted, and family members went to Joliet to be reunited with Potter.

Officials say she was confused, but in otherwise good health.

Potter, 82 of Huntley, spoke to family members around 11:15 a.m. July 4 and was expected to visit their house later that afternoon, but she never arrived, Deputy Chief Mike Klunk said.

Potter did not answer her phone when relatives called, he said, and when they went looking for her at her residence, she and her 2010 silver Ford Fusion were nowhere to be found.

Family reported her missing at 6:57 p.m., at which point authorities began searching the area, Klunk said.

"Everyone please my family needs your help," Parker, who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, said in a Facebook post Tuesday. "Our Grandmother is missing and we desperately want to find her and bring her home."

This is the second time Potter had been reported missing in recent years, Klunk said. In 2014, she left in her vehicle and was lost for several hours before returning home.

Police received several leads on Potter's whereabouts from the community.
