2 questioned after Muncie woman, 73, found shot to death

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a Muncie man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of his 73-year-old mother.

They say 42-year-old Richard M. Franks was booked into the Delaware County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder.

Delaware County Sheriff Ray Dudley says Bonnie Lou Franks died of a single gunshot wound to her head about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. Deputies found the body on the living room floor near a shotgun.

Sheriff's investigator Kurt Walthour stated in court records that emergency dispatchers received a call from a man later identified as the Richard M. Franks reporting "his girlfriend had shot his mom ... in the back of the head." Richard Franks was apprehended about an hour later in Muncie.

A 47-year-old woman was questioned in the case but not arrested.
