Filing asks for sanctions in Chicago police-abuse suit
CHICAGO (AP) - A woman who says she had a miscarriage after a Chicago police officer used a Taser on her wants a judge to sanction city attorneys for not revealing the officer's full history.
Elaina Turner's lawyer made the request Wednesday in a filing with the judge overseeing her federal lawsuit. Turner claims the officer used excessive force during a car-towing dispute.
A recent Associated Press review of court records showed city attorneys nationwide sometimes appeared to subvert evidence in lawsuits.
Turner's attorney, Jeffrey Granich, argues in Wednesday's filing that the city didn't disclose relevant documents that the officer was involved in a fatal shooting in 2014. He says that showed either "a lack of due diligence" or an "intentional attempt to hide" information.
Chicago's law department didn't have an immediate comment.
