A sense of whimsy called for in Geneva Park District's 'Harvey' auditions
Submitted by Geneva Park District
The Geneva Park District has announced a casting call for its adult production of "Harvey," written by Mary Chase and directed by Lisa Pivaronas.
This classic play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1945, and has been adapted for film and television several times. It tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, a polite and friendly man with a very strange best friend, a 6-foot, 3 ½-inch invisible rabbit named Harvey. Elwood's sister Veta is concerned the rabbit will interfere with her life as a socialite, so she tries to have Elwood committed at the local sanitarium. When she explains her brother's condition she is mistakenly committed instead, and a comedy of errors ensues as his family realizes that maybe Harvey isn't so bad after all.
Adults, ages 18 and older, are invited to audition from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, July 6 and 7.
Call (630) 232-4542 to schedule your audition time, prepare a one- to two-minute monologue, and be prepared to read from the script. Auditions will take place at Sunset Community Center, 710 Western Ave., Geneva.
Once cast, rehearsals begin the week of July 10 and are scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Sunday. Cast should expect increased rehearsals during tech week.
Performances of "Harvey" are scheduled Aug. 25-28 at the new Playhouse 38 location, 321 Stevens St., Suite P, Geneva. Tickets for $15 will be available for purchase in advance at Sunset Community Center, and any remaining tickets will be sold for $20 at the door.
