Columbus apartment building fire leaves 28 people homeless

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - An apartment building fire in Columbus has left 28 residents without homes.

Columbus Fire Department spokesman Capt. Michael Wilson says the fire reported late Saturday left all 12 units in a building at the Stonegate Apartments on the city's east side uninhabitable for the time being.

Wilson says smoke alarms were sounding and residents already were evacuating when firefighters and police arrived shortly before midnight. No one was injured.

He says heavy smoke and fire were coming from the south side of the two-story building when firefighters arrived.

The (Columbus) Republic reports (http://bit.ly/28XDqBA ) the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
