McDonald's new headquarters to have high rise, green space

CHICAGO (AP) - McDonald's new corporate headquarters near downtown Chicago will include two buildings with green space and retail shops.

One of the buildings will be nine stories tall and its complex will be located on a large property that was once home to Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions in the city's West Loop neighborhood.

The world's biggest hamburger chain announced last week it would make the move in 2018 from the suburb of Oak Brook.

The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/28P8jMy ) that developer Sterling Bay shared details about the project Wednesday night during a community meeting. Developers said if the city approves the expansion, the property would generate about $4 million a year in property taxes.

The new headquarters won't include an internal McDonald's restaurant or hotel, which the company has in Oak Brook.
