How can Christians support Trump?

After reading Michael Gerson's column June 7 about the Evangelical Christian Right planning to meet with Donald Trump on June 21, I sat in a state of disbelief for several minutes.

How can anyone who professes to be a Christian possibly support Donald Trump? He stands against everything I was taught all my life, in Sunday School and at home. Don't these people remember the teachings of Jesus? The Ten Commandments?

When our children were growing up we listened to James Dobson and discussed his teachings. While we didn't agree with everything he said, he helped us raise our children. How can he possibly even sit in the same room with Donald Trump and listen to what spews out of his mouth? Even if he wanted to do all the awful things he promises to do, he would be unable. He is not a one-man ruler, though he thinks he is. Who would want to live in a world like the one he imagines he can create?

I'm glad I'm a Methodist and not an Evangelical, or I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing what is going on with my church leaders.
