Celebrate summer with Grayslake's Family Picnic and Fireworks

Fireworks, food and fun will be on display as Grayslake kicks off the summer with the 19th annual Family Picnic and Fireworks.

The celebration in Central Park, 250 Library Lane, is set for 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 25.

When families aren't enjoying the music played by a DJ from 4 to 6 p.m., they can enjoy food such as popcorn, funnel cakes, pizza provided by 13 food and beverage vendors from around the area as part of the “Taste of Grayslake.” Local businesses will also be on hand to showcase and sell their products. History buffs can get a hands-on history lesson from the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum.

For the kids, there will be carnival rides that will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Tickets are sold for $1.25 each and each carnival ride is 2 tickets. For unlimited access to rides, attendees can purchase a wrist band for $15.

A climbing wall, moonwalks, giant slide, obstacle course and face painting are among other activities that will be held throughout the evening.

Illinois-based rock/pop band King by Friday will perform from 6 to 9:30 p.m., and the night will end with fireworks that start at dusk.

Admission is free. Parking will be available at Grayslake Middle School and Grayslake Central High School.
