Gurnee traffic safety crackdown

Gurnee police have announced a traffic safety crackdown from Tuesday through July 5. Police officers will conduct additional occupant protection and impaired driver enforcement patrols. Authorities said the intensified enforcement effort will place emphasis on the late-night hours, generally 9 p.m. through 6 a.m., because federal statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur during that time. The special enforcement activities are funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
