Two Aurora men have been charged in connection with a weekend beating that left another man critically injured.

David Lopez, 19, and Juan A. Gomez-Gregorio, 26, who live in separate apartments on the 300 block of East New York Street, have each been charged with aggravated battery in the June 12 beating of a 46-year-old Aurora man, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

The victim still is hospitalized for critical head and face injuries, but officials said he is expected to survive.

Police found the victim about 5:10 p.m. June 12 near the apartment where Lopez and Gomez-Gregorio live, and investigators said the man was apparently beaten after an argument concerning his vehicle, according to the release. The man initially was taken to an Aurora hospital but later was transported by helicopter to another facility for treatment.

Both men are being held at the Kane County jail. Lopez's bail is set at $50,000, and Gomez-Gregorio's is $60,000.

Police said two other Aurora men were arrested at the same time as Lopez and Gomez-Gregorio but were released without charges.

Police are still investigating, and more charges are likely, according to the release.
