Diamondbacks draft Malczewski

Prospect product Welby Malczewski was selected in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Malczewski graduated from Prospect in 2013 and spent time at both Wabash and Heartland College in NJCAA competition before accepting a scholarship to Auburn, where he has one year of eligibility remaining.

Malczewski is a 6-foot-7, 225-pound left-handed pitcher.

Stallions host state championships:

The Arlington Stallions will host the Illinois Olympic (Seven-a-Side) rugby state championship on Saturday, July 9 at Melas Park in Mt. Prospect. This event is particularly exciting for the two-time defending champion Stallions as rugby returns to the Olympics in Rio De Janeiro this summer on Aug. 6.

"We've had some recent success in Olympic rugby," said Stallions coach Paul Bergman. "Our side is young and fast and all of our kids are excited about the idea of defending our championship in our own back yard."

Preliminary round games will begin at 10 a.m. and run throughout the remainder of the day.

The rain-out date is set for July 10.
