Elk Grove High shines at SkillsUSA State Competition

Elk Grove High School students took home state honors in several categories at the 2016 SkillsUSA State Competition, which took place in Springfield in April.

In the Automated Manufacturing competition, Elk Grove teams took first and second in the state. Peter Barts, Campbell Kraemer and Jonathan Faughn will now move on to the national competition in June in Louisville, Kentucky.

Anna Connelly, Maram Safi and Kacper Migacz brought home silver medals in the same category.

In Automotive Service, Daniel McKay placed sixth and Dominic Faciano placed 29th. In Carpentry, Devin Curran took second place, Cody Danek won third place, Michael Czaja placed sixth, Austin Danek placed 14th, Nicole Sugihara placed 18th and Roque Villalobos placed 19th.

In Commercial Baking, Angela Geraci placed 10th, Eiko Horibe placed 11th and Pedro Abad placed 18th. In Culinary Arts, Carly Hertzberg placed eighth and Mary Cronin placed 10th.

In the school's first year competing in the CNC Milling competition, students did not disappoint. Brandon Garcia was named state champion and James Loska finished third. Of the eight Elk Grove manufacturing students who competed at state, all eight brought home medals.

Much of the funding for the trip was covered thanks to the donations made by Wiegel Tool, GCAMP/BIG Kaiser and Aventics.
