Baseball: Benet, Montini advance

Benet 6, Glenbard South 2:

The Redwings (14-20) won consecutive regional titles for the first time in program history, advancing to the Class 3A Fenwick sectional semifinals to face Montini at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The score was knotted at 2-2 until Benet scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings. Alex Tassos homered and drove in 2 runs. Dan Sobolewski also drove in 2 runs. Joey Christensen and Mark Moran combined on the mound. Michael Ashe went 2-for-3 for Glenbard South (16-18).

Montini 6, Elmwood Park 1:

The Broncos (22-14) scored 3 runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to claim their third straight regional championship. They'll play Benet in the Class 3A Fenwick sectional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Alex Luka went 2-for-3 with a homer and 2 RBI. J.R. Walsh and Ben Steiner also had 2 hits in support of complete-game winning pitcher Jake Rosley, who pitched a 2-hitter with 5 strikeouts.

Batavia 13, Glenbard East 8:

An 8-run third inning powered Batavia to victory in the Class 4A Glenbard West regional final. Joey Moore, who homered, and Phil Abruzino drove in 2 runs for Glenbard East (28-9). Ryan Schefske and Michael Sebby had 2 hits apiece.

Plainfield Central 6, Waubonsie Valley 1:

Sultan Solebo pitched a no-hitter to beat Waubonsie Valley (23-12) in the Class 4A Downers Grove South regional final. The Wildcats play Plainfield North in Wednesday's Class 4A Oswego sectional semifinals. Jason Neville scored the Warriors' lone run on a sixth-inning wild pitch.
