Naperville police seek man who tried to take girl from library

Naperville police are seeking a man accused of trying to convince a 5-year-old girl at Nichols Library to leave with him, authorities said Friday.

The man approached the girl about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in a stairway inside the library and attempted to persuade her to come with him, police said in a news release.

A family member interrupted the scene by entering the stairwell, police said, and when that happened, the suspect fled. He has not been found.

Police described the suspect as a white man between 25 and 35 years old with short black hair, but no facial hair or glasses, wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved black shirt. Police said this man was seen at the library at 200 W. Jefferson Ave. with a woman described as between 25 and 35 years old with long blonde hair.

Naperville police said they are investigating this as a suspicious incident. They ask anyone with information about the case to contact the investigations division at (630) 420-6726.
