Elmhurst schools locked down after bank robbery

Two Elmhurst schools were placed on lockdown for a short time on Wednesday morning after a nearby bank robbery.

Elmhurst police are investigating a robbery at Inland Bank, 539 S. Spring Road, according to a news release.

A man entered the bank, handed a note to the teller and demanded money around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. He then left the bank on foot; police have recovered a vehicle believed to have been involved in the robbery and are investigating.

Shortly after the robbery, Lincoln Elementary School and Madison Early Childhood Education Center in Elmhurst were placed on soft lockdown, according to Elmhurst Community Unit District 205 officials. A soft lockdown means that no one is able to enter or exit the building, but normal classroom activities continue. Elmhurst police lifted the soft lockdown by 11:10 a.m.

The bank robber has not been caught. He was described white and wearing a blue jacket, black pants and a hat, according to police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050.
