Softball: West's slam, Adams' shutout power Mundelein

Jordyn West's grand slam highlighted an 8-run top of the seventh, Brenna Adams pitched a complete-game 2-hitter, and Mundelein's softball team stunned fourth-seeded Deerfield 9-0 in the Class 4A Mundelein regional semifinals on Tuesday.

No. 13 Mundelein (13-22), which beat No. 20 Waukegan in a play-in game on Monday, advances to Saturday's 11 a.m. final against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 5 Hersey and No. 12 Glenbrook North.

"It's funny," Mundelein coach Brett Wilhelm said. "When you eliminate errors, you look like a whole different team."

Adams struck out four and didn't walk a batter. She helped herself at the plate with a double.

Karlee Busscher and Peyton Pribyl each had a pair of hits for Mundelein.

Antioch 12, Roosevelt 0: At St. Viator, freshman lefty Katie Sorenson pitched a five-inning no-hitter, and the second-seeded Sequoits scored 6 runs in each of the first two innings in the Class 3A St. Viator regional semifinal.

Sorenson (double, 2 RBI) and Megan Lawrence were both 3-for-3 for Antioch (25-11), which advances to Saturday's 11 a.m. final against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 7 St. Viator and No. 9 Northside.

Piper Foote was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI for the Sequoits, who also got a double from Avery Malicki. Annie Wagner and Kaylee Schreiner each contributed 2 RBI.

Antioch was coming a 17-2 win over Regina Dominican at The Ballpark in Rosemont last Saturday night. The game featured an inside-the-park homer by Wagner, who also had a triple. Carlie Gaylord, Lawrence and Jacklyn Geraty also tripled. Jill Foote and Sorenson had doubles to help support winning-pitcher Stephanie Bonaguidi (3 IP, 5 K, 0 ER).

Libertyville 7, Prospect 1: At Lake Forest, winning-pitcher Hannah Heraty retired 17 hitters in a row after the second inning, as the top-seeded Wildcats won their Class 4A state tournament opener.

Heraty allowed just 2 hits, striking out five and walking one.

Jessie Lauret led Libertyville offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Jamie Stevens was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI, Emily Hilldale (1-for-3) doubled, and Sarah Hoyer (2-for-3) tripled.

Libertyville (27-7) will play the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 8 Loyola Academy and No. 9 Stevenson in Saturday's 11 a.m. final.

Warren 10, Buffalo Grove 3: At Warren, Sabrina Treviono homered and drove in 4 runs, and the third-seeded Blue Devils advanced to their own Class 4A regional final against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 6 Grayslake Central and No. 11 Palatine.

Hannan Nommensen went the distance in the circle for Warren (23-12). She struck out 13, walked three, allowed 5 hits and did not give up an earned run. Caitlyn Britton was 3-for-4 for Warren.

Prairie Ridge 11, Grayslake North 0: At McHenry, Hailey Baker pitched a five-inning 3-hitter for the second-seeded Wolves in the Class 4A regional semifinal.

Freshman Grace Brown doubled in the first for No. 8 Grayslake North (15-19). Senior Jessica Vaughn and junior Jenna Pozezinski had the Knights' other hits.

Lakes 17, Senn 0: At Vernon Hills, Eagles, seeded third in the Class 3A Wauconda sectional complex, won their regional opener easily.

Lakes advances to Saturday's 11 a.m. final against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 6 Vernon Hills and No. 11 CICS/Northtown.

Wauconda 7, Foreman 0: The top-seeded Bulldogs won their Class 3A Elmwood Park regional semifinal by forfeit.

Wauconda (24-7) will play the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 8 Resurrection and No. 10 Elmwood Park at 11 a.m. Saturday.
