See Wendy Wasserstein's 'Third' with Independent Players this weekend

Independent Players will wrap up its production of Wendy Wasserstein's last play "Third," which she wrote shortly before her untimely death in early 2006, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 24-25, at the Elgin Arts Showcase, 164 Division St., eighth floor, Elgin.

Directed by Larry Boller, it stars Lori Rohr, Ben Slabik, JoAnn Smith, Molly Wagner and Richard Westphal.

When an English professor named Laurie Jameson accuses a privileged student named Woodson Bull III of plagiarism, she ultimately realizes that preconceived notions about life, people and herself in order to free herself from anxiety and fear and regain control of her increasingly chaotic and uncertain life.

In her short career, Wasserstein wrote 11 plays, three of which - "Isn't It Romantic," "The Heidi Chronicles" (for which she won a Tony Award, a Pulitzer Prize and a Susan Smith Blackburn Prize) and "The Sisters Rosensweig" - were produced by Independent Players in past seasons.
