Naperville's Beebe elementary evacuated after bomb threat; nothing found

Students at Beebe Elementary School in Naperville were evacuated for more than two hours Monday because of a bomb threat made to the school, but no one was injured, authorities said.

Police determined the threat was unfounded after an explosive-sniffing K9 and officers from the DuPage County bomb squad found nothing suspicious, Naperville Police Cmdr. Jason Arres said.

After the threat was received at 11:29 a.m., students, faculty and staff were taken to nearby Jefferson Junior High, where they could be safe and supervised, according to a recording on Beebe school's voicemail. Elementary students remained at Jefferson until they were dismissed from the junior high about 2:30 p.m., Naperville Unit District 203 spokeswoman Michelle Fregoso said.

Beebe students were scheduled to have an outdoor field day on Monday before classes end Wednesday. The district said it takes the threat "very seriously" and is grateful to police for their work protecting students and adults at the school.

Police continue their investigation into the source of the threat. Anyone with information is asked to call Naperville police investigations at (630) 420-6666.
