3 types of restrooms would meet all needs

I could not believe what I was reading in the May 14 Daily Herald. The article, found on Page 5, addressing the issue of transgender student's having access to gender specific bathrooms and locker rooms. In the article, Mr. Knight of the ACLU states "The guideline also makes clear that the 'discomfort' of other students is not a reason to deny students who are transgender access to bathrooms and locker rooms."

This is absurd. Why would the majority be forced to tolerate and accept the actions and behavior of the minority? While the number of those who participate in the LGBT lifestyle is not accurately known, a Gallup Poll in 2012 indicates that 3.4 percent of Americans identify themselves as LGBT's. While that number may be slightly higher today, they are still the minority. While I do believe, though, that the majority of the American people do not embrace or participate in this lifestyle, there are others who may support and tolerate it.

Having said that, I would like to redo Mr. Knight's statement to read as follows: "The guideline also makes clear that the 'discomfort' of students who are transgender is not a reason to deny other students the privacy they deserve in the bathrooms and locker rooms."

Providing private facilities for the transgender student certainly has to be in order and this should provide their privacy. After all, in the days when there were only two sexes, two private facilities were provided and seemed to have worked well. Now that there are three classifications of sexual orientation, three facilities should be provided. This should give everyone the privacy and respect they deserve.
