Baseball: South Elgin falls to Batavia

South Elgin was officially eliminate from the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division baseball race on Thursday with a 9-7 loss to Batavia in the completion of a suspended game. That coupled with Glenbard East's 11-4 win over Geneva gives the Rams the Valley title outright.

Batavia (19-10, 14-8) got 2 hits and an RBI from Joe Burke in its win over South Elgin while Andrew Costigan added a double and an RBI.

Nate Gomez had a double for South Elgin (18-9, 15-5) and Jake Miller added 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Glenbard East 11, Geneva 4: Joshua Rose had 2 hits and an RBI for Geneva (20-11, 15-8) and Jack Wassel drove in a run but Glenbard East clinched the UEC Valley title with this win.

Bartlett 9, West Aurora 3: Mike Prang scattered 7 hits and had 2 hits of his own with a double and 4 RBI to lead the Hawks (14-17, 11-10) to a UEC Valley win. Also contributing to the Bartlett offense were Cameron Mays (3 hits) and Scott Reudel (2 doubles, 3 RBI). Ryan Becker had 2 hits with a double for West Aurora (12-15, 10-11) and Logan Love added 2 hits with an RBI.

West Chicago 7, Elgin 0: In the UEC River, JC Fortmann had 2 hits for Elgin (6-27, 4-19).

Prairie Ridge 2, Burlington Central 0: Kyle Creadon suffered the loss on the mound for the Rockets (19-11) in this nonconference defeat.

Grant 7, Hampshire 2: The Whip-Purs (18-14) managed just singles from Michael Kruse and Kyle Homa in this nonconference loss.

Jacobs 2, Sycamore 1: Brenden Heiss had a double and an RBI for Jacobs (20-11) in its nonconference win. Evan Liebau went 5⅓ innings and allowed 5 hits for the win and Johnny Rohde picked up the save for the Golden Eagles.

Hoffman Estates 12, Streamwood 2: Keagan Cordone had a double for the Sabres (9-21) in this nonconference loss.

Elgin Academy 10, North Shore CD 6: Jonathan Cruz had 2 hits with a triple and Jordan Hare added a triple and an RBI to lead the Hilltoppers (19-9, 5-5) to an Independent School League win. Andrew Wilson added a double and an RBI for EA. Cruz was the winning pitcher.

CL South 3, Schaumburg 0: Griffin Bright had 2 hits with an RBI and Ethan Weinandy had a double for Crystal Lake South (25-5) in this nonconference win. Jason DeCicco, one of four Gator pitchers, was credited with the win.

Elmwood Park 5, ACC 0: Mario Magano had a double for Aurora Central (19-12, 12-7) in its Metro Suburban loss.
