Softball: Beatus pitches, hits West Aurora to another shutout win

Hannah Beatus used her arm and her bat Wednesday to help West Aurora's softball team put the finishing touches on an undefeated Upstate Eight Conference season.

Beatus threw a 3-hitter with 13 strikeouts and 1 walk and had 3 hits and an RBI as the Blackhawks (26-2, 17-0) defeated Glenbard East 10-0.

Jessica Vargas added a grand slam home run for West Aurora while Jamie McCreedy had a double. Carley Frauenhoff and Sarah Hansen each drove in 2 runs for the Blackhawks, who now have 16 shutouts this season.

South Elgin 22, East Aurora 0: Amber Derr had 3 hits with a home run, double and 5 RBI and Stacy Bellack had 2 hits with 4 RBI as the Storm (17-16, 9-8) rolled to an easy UEC Valley win. Also contributing for South Elgin were Alissa Hargett (3 hits, 2 RBI), Alexa Rogalla (2 hits, 2 RBI), Hannah Gordon (2 hits, RBI), Erin Bradford (2 hits, RBI), Bailey McClure (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Geneva Pollman (2 hits, 2 RBI). Katie Koss was the winning pitcher, allowing 6 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks.

St. Charles North 14, Larkin 0: The North Stars (20-4, 14-2) got a 2 hitter from Maddie Webb and a home run from Allison Moberg in this UEC River win.

Geneva 13, Elgin 0: Annika Radabaugh, Molly Wrenn and Alissa Dierks each had 2 doubles and Rachel Fanella added one to lead the Vikings (21-9, 11-7) to this UEC River win. Fanella and Emily Polcinski combined to allow Elgin (6-24, 3-14) just 4 hits, 2 of them by Jessica Rago.

West Chicago 2, Bartlett 1: Elyse Hickey had 2 hits while Dani Kleeman and Taylor Rotondo each doubled for Bartlett (20-9, 12-5) in this UEC Valley loss. Danielle Kirby suffered the loss despite allowing just 4 hits in 6 innings.

Burlington Central 6, Richmond-Burton 3: Emily Kisch (2B), Kelly Wiater and Gretchen Schrubbe each had 2 hits for Burlington Central (22-8, 12-2) in this Big Northern East win. Kristina Ahlers added a double for Rockets and Kisch picked up the win in relief, allowing 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks in 4 innings.

Wheaton Academy 2, ACC 0: Danielle Brown allowed just 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks but Aurora Central (13-14, 7-7) could manage only 4 hits of its own in this Metro Suburban West loss.
