Softball: Libertyville clinches Lake title
Emily Hilldale went 5-for-6, Hannah Heraty notched her school-record 21st victory, and Libertyville's softball team won the North Suburban Lake Division championship outright with a 22-10 win over host Stevenson on Tuesday.
On Monday, by virtue of their win over Lake Zurich and that they would have won a potential tiebreaker with Warren, the Wildcats (24-7, 11-1) clinched a berth in Thursday's NSC title game at Wauconda.
Heraty pitched 4⅔ innings in relief to earn her history-making win against Stevenson (5-7 NSC Lake). Jessie Lauret, who started in the circle for Libertyville, went 4-for-6 at the plate with 4 RBI. The Wildcats received 3-for-5 efforts from Kenzie Rother (double, 5 RBI) and Lyndsey Lyons (2 doubles, 2 RBI). Jamie Stevens and Sam Hilldale (3 RBI) each contributed a pair of hits in the win.
Stevenson's Emma Oriatti was 3-for-3 with a homer, double and 5 RBI.
Wauconda 1, Vernon Hills 0: Kayla Wedl allowed 2 hits and struck out 10 without walking a batter in 6 innings, as the Bulldogs wrapped up North Suburban Prairie action.
Brooke Sefcik (2-for-2) drove in the game's only run in the bottom of the third. Willow Schanz was 2-for-3 with a double for Wauconda (23-6, 11-1), which hosts Libertyville in the NSC championship game on Thursday. Alex Steffens had a triple for the Bulldogs.
Kayla Serio pitched the seventh for Wauconda to earn the save. She allowed 1 hit and struck out one.
Sara Lenzi doubled for 1 of Vernon Hills' 3 hits. The Cougars finished 5-7 in the NSC Prairie.
Antioch 8, Grant 6: The host Sequoits received 2 hits apiece from Jacklyn Geraty, Ashley Stephens, Jill Foote and Carlie Gaylord in the North Suburban Prairie finale.
Geraty homered, and Stephens (2 RBI) doubled. Gaylord knocked in 3 runs for Antioch (21-11, 8-4 NSC Prairie).
Hannah Cook earned the win in relief.
Grant (18-13, 7-5), which lost its third game in a row, got a pair of hits each from Calista Warmowski (double, RBI), Kenzi Sancken (RBI) and Maddy Nourigat. Erin Bengston doubled for the Bulldogs.
Lakes 11, Round Lake 0: Ally Perdue was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for the Eagles in the North Suburban Prairie finale.
Lakes (22-8, 9-3) got 2 hits apiece Rom Camryn Jones and Georgia Ohren. Rachel Becker had a double and an RBI.
Round Lake finished 2-10 in the NSC Prairie.
Huntley 12, Grayslake North 0: The Knights managed only 3 hits in the Fox Valley Conference loss.
Jessica Vaughn, Angelica Diaz and Molly Rutkowski had the hits for Grayslake North.
