Girls water polo: Travetto, Stevenson march into Elite Eight

Stevenson's girls water polo team is headed back to the Elite Eight.

The top seed in the Buffalo Grove sectional had no trouble with the No. 2 seed Saturday afternoon, winning 15-2 against Highland Park in the championship matchup.

Senior standout Alison Travetto led the way for the Patriots with 8 goals and Claire Haas scored 3.

Stevenson (31-1) scored 6 goals in the first period and led 10-1 by the half.

Tanya Shkiler, Amelia Eastman, Fiona Gaffney and Lauren Maloney scored 1 goal apiece, and Stevenson starting goalie Lauren Burns made 10 saves through three quarters of action.

Highland Park wraps up its season with a record of 26-3. Natalie Gelberg scored both goals for the Giants, and goalie Abbey Hodges stopped 8 shots.

Stevenson will meet St. Ignatius is the last of the state quarterfinals at 8:15 p.m. Friday at Stevenson.
