Baseball: St. Charles North clinches share of UEC River title

The St. Charles North baseball team will have a little added incentive Monday night when the North Stars take on rival St. Charles East at Fifth Third Ballpark in Geneva.

With Saturday's 10-1 Upstate Eight win over West Aurora, the North Stars clinched at least a share of the UEC River Division title. They can take the crown outright Monday with a win over the Saints in the first of their 3-game series.

In Saturday's win, Brendan Joyce led the way for SCN (24-4, 19-1) with 2 hits, both doubles, and 3 RBI. Connor Bizik (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Zach Fick (2B, RBI), Erik Rabin (2B, RBI) and Kyle Novotney (2B, RBI) also contributed to SCN's 11-hit attack.

Tim Hasto picked up the win on the mound, going 5 innings and allowing 6 hits with 3 strikeouts.

Logan Love (2 hits, 2B), Jake Lipscomb (2 hits, RBJ) and Jake Arsenault (2 hits) led West Aurora (10-14-1, 9-9).

Bartlett 15, Batavia 11: Winning pitcher Mike Prang had 3 hits including 2 doubles and 5 RBI to lead Bartlett (10-17, 7-10) to this Upstate Eight win. Also contributing for the Hawks were Cameron Mays (2B), Kyle Kucharski (2 hits), Tripp Paris (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Johnny Johnson (2B), who also picked up the save on the mound. Glenn Albanese had 4 hits with a double and an RBI for Batavia (16-10, 11-8) while Jimmy Roach had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Andrew Costigan 2 RBI.

Larkin 7, East Aurora 4: Winning pitcher Zach Edgar (6⅓ IP, 6 hits, 5 Ks, 4 BBs) had 2 doubles and Kordell Thomas had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI to lead the Royals (7-21, 3-17) to a UEC win. Keonne Mebane added a double and an RBI for Larkin.

Cary-Grove 4, CL South 0: Matt McCumber went 6 innings and allowed just 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks as Cary-Grove (21-8, 11-3) took a 1-game lead in the loss column in the race for the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division championship. Tyler Pennington had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI for the Trojans and Quinn Celske added 2 hits. Kory Olsen had 2 hits and Nicholas Wolski added a double for Crystal Lake South (22-4, 11-4). Andrew Engelking was the losing pitcher.

Oak Forest 7, Burlington Central 4: At the LaSalle-Peru Cavalier Invitational, John Murphy had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI for Burlington Central. David Lauber and Craig Schuring added doubles for the Rockets (16-10).

Schaumburg 13, Streamwood 5: Tim Crom had a 2-run home run and Jesse Rico added 2 hits with an RBI for Streamwood (7-19) in this nonconference loss.

Loyola 12, Marmion 4: Eric Lundell had a double for the Cadets (8-21, 3-16) in this Chicago Catholic League defeat.

Hononegah 1, Huntley 0: Trevor Ranallo had a double for the Red Raiders (16-14) in their nonconference loss. Luc Sibert suffered the loss on the mound despite allowing just 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks in 5 innings.

Wheaton Academy 12, St. Edward 2: In the Metro Suburban West, Matthew Schimbke drove in both runs for St. Edward (5-23, 1-17).

Rockford Christian Life 5, Harvest Christian 4: In the Northeastern Athletic Conference, Dominik Olech had a triple, Zach Pawelek a double and Jack Nohava 2 RBI for Harvest Christian. Chad Jakel suffered the loss on the mound for the Lions (17-12, 7-7).
