District 214 superintendent wins national communications award

David Schuler, superintendent of Northwest Suburban High School District 214, recently received the 2016 Bob Grossman Leadership in School Communications Award from the National School Public Relations Association.

"Schuler's visionary and innovative communication leadership along with his personal commitment to using all available communication tools and strategies is setting a new standard for superintendents everywhere," Rich Bagin, executive director of NSPRA, said in a news release. "His advocacy and passion for students, schools and public education is clear to all and the mark of a true communicator."

The judges noted that "under Schuler's leadership, the Community Engagement and Outreach Department he envisioned and created three years ago has helped pass critical education legislation, engaged parents, students and the community through social media outreach, secured national media that reshapes the dialogue on public education, hosted influential guests including U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, launched an alumni relations effort and expanded an Education Foundation to build ambassadors and support students."
