Makeover winners get a new look at Algonquin Commons

Four shoppers got pampered and spoiled this month with a shopping spree and total makeover at the Algonquin Commons shopping center.

They each won the makeover as part of a March Makeover Madness contest hosted at the Randall Road mall earlier this spring.

Their friends, family members, co-workers and, in some cases, even themselves posted each contestant's deserving story and photos on the mall's Facebook page throughout the month of March.

In all, there were hundreds of stories submitted on why mothers, daughters, friends, co-workers, neighbors and more needed the makeovers, said Kim Gilmore of Gilmore Marketing Concepts Inc., which helped host the contest for the mall.

While there were many deserving stories, the final winners were Kara Montgomery Porter of Carpentersville, Teresa Silva of Elgin, Chris Bartot of Huntley and Jackie Jordan of Belvidere.

"The winners were chosen by their story and the number of responses to their story," Gilmore said.

Their day of pampering started Friday morning with $500 in gift cards for each person. Gilmore gave them their cards and sent them on their way for a shopping spree throughout the mall.

"They were all super excited and planning their shopping plan of attack," Gilmore said.

After they finished shopping, they received new hairstyles and makeovers - some from Taylor Stevens at the mall, and some from Ulta.

They all debuted their new looks - with their new clothes, shoes, accessories and hair - to their families and those who nominated them.

Store closing:

Aeropostale announced last week the company will close more than 100 stores throughout the country as it filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. And it looks like one of the Aeropostale stores along Randall Road will be part of those massive closures.

On the list is the store at 502 Commons Way in the Geneva Commons shopping center.

While there are other stores throughout Illinois on the list, the location in Algonquin is not listed. So, for all of the fans out there of the teen-style retailer's clothes and accessories, it looks like you at least will have one Aeropostale store left along the Randall Road corridor to shop at for now.

Representatives from the company could not be reached for comment on the closure and when it will happen.

The Aeropostale store in Geneva Commons is on the main drag near the northern end of the mall, between Justice and Bath and Body Works, and just south of Dick's Sporting Goods.

In Algonquin, the Aeropostale store is near the mall offices and American Eagle.
