Kim Burke is retiring at the end of the school year after 19 years as human resources director at Woodland Elementary District 50 in Gurnee.

Burke, who started her Woodland career as a human resources specialist, is credited with having developed the district's HR department. Officials said the department became efficient and customer-oriented for all employees.

"It is a bittersweet ending leaving work and friends but a glorious beginning that will allow me to spend more time with my grandchildren, family members and traveling," Burke said.
