Baseball: Split decision for St. Viator at Joliet Catholic

St. Viator's baseball team dropped the first game in East Suburban Catholic Conference play at Joliet Catholic 6-3 before storming back for an 11-4 win in the second matchup.

Dan Sullivan homered in both games for St. Viator (15-11).

In the first game, Sullivan hit a solo homer in the seventh inning. Cole Kmet (2-for-4) and Mike Raugaskis both doubled, but the Lions committed 5 errors.

In the second game, Sullivan had a 2-run homer and Chris Lolli had a 2-run double as St. Viator rallied with a 5-run sixth inning.

Sullivan finished with 2 hits and 4 RBI, Kmet went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and Jack Coney drove in 2 runs.

Fremd 5, Warren 1: Jared Swenson tossed a complete-game no-hitter to help Fremd past visiting Warren.

The Vikings (13-7) jumped in front with a 4-run first inning.

Tommy Josten, Jack Molnar and Ethan Hajdukovic doubled, and Tommy Josten drove in a run in the first-inning rally.

Hersey 5, Hononegah 4: Alberto Garcia doubled twice and Brett Harris tripled and scored twice to help the visiting Huskies pick up a nonconference win.

Luke LaSalvia reached based three times for Hersey (9-13), finishing with 2 hits, 1 RBI and a run scored.

Huskies starter Matt Johnson (6 IP, 8 hits, 4 earned runs) was awarded the decision, and Mark LoSacco got a save after getting the last two outs.

Buffalo Grove 2, Vernon Hills 0: Justin Meyer threw a complete-game shutout, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks and striking out two for the host Bison (11-13). Chase Marsh doubled and drove in a run for BG, and John Carpinelli had a double.

Lake Forest 10, Prospect 5: The Knights jumped ahead 5-0 after the third inning as Trevor Engquist finished with a homer and a double, but the Lake Forest stormed back to earn a nonconference win. Grant Whitebloom and Ryan Howe also had 2 hits apiece for host Prospect (15-7).

Barrington 9, Dundee-Crown 4: Blake Swanson doubled and drove in 4 runs, and Jimmy Day finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored to power the host Broncos in nonconference action.

Zach Balogh walked twice, doubled and drove in a run for Barrington (21-6), which won for the eighth straight time.

Connor O'Keefe was awarded the win after providing 3⅔ innings of 1-hit relief.

Maine West 6, Maine South 5: The visiting Warriors came up with 11 hits and took advantage of 4 errors to win a Central Suburban crossover.

Jake Riportella and Troy Johnson led the offensive effort for Maine West (11-11), with both finishing 3-for-4, while Sean Russell and Dan Johnston drove in 2 runs apiece.

Maine South produced a 3-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Sam Kindle got the final two outs in relief of Alex Zimmerman to preserve the Warriors' victory.

Wheeling 7, Lincoln Park 1: Brian Maloney contributed a 2-run double in the fifth inning, finishing with 3 hits (2 doubles) and 3 RBI to help the host Wildcats pick up a nonconference victory.

Christian Hubbard, Drew Roberts, D.J. Godlewski and Alex Khatcherian had 2 hits apiece for Wheeling.

Khatcherian earned the pitching decision after a dominant showing over 6 innings. He allowed just 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out three. Joey Sineni pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Wheeling (10-17).

Hoffman Estates 7, Libertyville 2: Ryan Ward, in his first pitching effort in three weeks, tossed a complete game in helping the host Hawks to a nonconference victory.

Ward allowed 1 earned run and scattered 7 hits while striking out two.

Luke Barnes and Dylan Bloom both singled and doubled, drove in 1 run and scored 1 run for Hoffman Estates (8-14). Zach Dressler reached base four times and scored twice, and Kevin Howell had 2 hits and a walk and drove in a run.

Lake Forest 18, Rolling Meadows 2 (5 inn.): Marco Perez and Luka Pavlakis both hit safely twice and Jack Lincoln had a double, but the Mustangs (3-19) committed 4 errors and yielded 12 hits in a nonconference defeat.

Stevenson 10, Palatine 0 (6 inn.): The host Pirates managed just 5 singles against three Patriots pitchers, and Palatine (13-13) committed 4 errors in a nonconference setback.

Plainfield East 3, Elk Grove 2: The hosts produced a pair of singles in the seventh inning to edge the Grens in a nonconference matchup.

Chuck Fleming had a pair of hits and drove in a run for Elk Grove (18-8), which saw a three-game win streak end. Starter Joe Leone allowed 2 unearned runs over 4 innings and did not get a decision.
