Judson University celebrates new graduates

Judson University in Elgin awarded degrees to more than 180 graduates during its 75th spring commencement ceremonies Saturday.

Clinical psychologist and talk show host David Stoop delivered the keynote address to graduates in morning and afternoon ceremonies at the Lindner Fitness Center.

Reflecting on his career, Stoop told graduates of the Christian school that each day is a crossroads and encouraged them to follow their faith.

"Choose the right path," said Stoop, an author, founder of the Center for Family Therapy in California and co-host of the nationally syndicated Christian counseling show, "New Life Live."

At a 10 a.m. ceremony, 102 students graduated from the School of Art, Design and Architecture and the School of Business and Professional Studies. Later Saturday, 79 students graduated from the School of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Education and the School of Business and Professional Studies.

Several graduates were recognized with honors in academic excellence and campus leadership. Schaumburg Police Chief James Lamkin received the Ames Leadership Award, which celebrates a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership student who demonstrates leadership, vision, and spiritual guidance.

Deborah Sanders, of Elgin, received the Adoniram Judson Leadership in Ministry Award, which is presented to a Master of Leadership in Ministry graduate who achieves excellence in coursework and character.
