Baseball: Carpinelli's productive effort lifts Buffalo Grove
John Carpinelli homered and drove in 2 runs, then provided effective relief of starter Jack Vaselaney as the Bison prevailed over Prospect 8-4 in Mid-Suburban East baseball Thursday.
Carpinelli earned a save after providing 1⅓ hitless innings to close out the game.
Leo Rule and Kurt Kelly had 2 hits apiece for the Bison (10-12, 6-5), who snapped a 4-game skid.
Prospect (13-6, 6-5) got a 3-for-4 effort, including a double, from Richie Baszek. Trevor Engquist went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
Rolling Meadows 7, Hersey 6 (10 inn.): Looks like Rolling Meadows is getting accustomed to winning.
The Mustangs won for the second straight day, this time when Ryan Laboda scored on a fielder's choice struck by Hank Holm in the 10th inning.
Alex Rezny earned a victory in relief for Rolling Meadows (2-18, 2-9). He also produced 3 hits, and teammates Marco Perez, Luka Pavlakis and Laboda had 2 apiece.
Tanner Luke had 3 hits for Hersey (7-13, 4-7), while Brett Harris, Paul Tokar (double) and Luke LaSalvia had 2 hit each.
Rolling Meadows had jumped in front 6-4 after a 6-run fifth inning, but Hersey tied it with a two-out rally in the seventh.
Conant 7, Schaumburg 5: The No. 3 through 5 hitters in Conant's lineup finished a combined 7-for-11 as the visiting Cougars piled up 13 hits in an MSL West win.
Jimmy Brady (2-for-4), Logan Smith (3-for-3) and Ryan Roberts (2-for-4) did the bulk of the damage for Conant (12-13, 5-6). Ian Taylor earned a victory in relief after allowing an unearned run over 3 innings.
Kevin Sindewald had the big hit for Conant in the fifth inning, driving in a run with a single to break up a game which had been tied.
Nick Calip, Jacob Rintz and Parker Nolan had 2 hits apiece for Schaumburg (11-10, 5-6).
Maine West 8, Deerfield 1: Leadoff man Jake Riportella went 3-for-4 and scored twice and Matt Johnston also had 3 hits as the hosts prevailed in Central Suburban North play.
Matt Willett was in command on the mound for Maine West (10-11), allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks in a complete-game triumph. He struck out two.
Larkin 12, Hoffman Estates 7: Larkin's Keonne McBane hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the fourth inning to lift the visitors to a nonconference win. Ryan Kulton had a pair of homers for Hoffman Estates (7-13). Both teams finished with 10 hits.
Christian Liberty 15, IMA 5 (5 inn.): Jimmy Cunningham limited IMSA to 3 hits as the Chargers earned a 5-inning win behind an error-free defense and a 17-hit attack that featured doubles by Tim Laskowski and Jake Ringstrand.
York 6, Leyden 5: The host Eagles scored once in the bottom of the seventh but came up a run short in a West Suburban crossover.
Matt Ozanic doubled twice and drove in 2 runs for Leyden (11-13), while Robert Wisniewski had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Adrian Perez tripled.
Elk Grove 6, Lane Tech 4: The visiting Grenadiers rallied for 4 runs in the seventh inning to pick up a nonconference road victory.
Christian Camacho, Chuck Fleming and Nick Hoffmann had doubles for Elk Grove (17-7), and Jakub Sokol, Camacho and Hoffmann each finished with 2 hits.
Ryan Uehara, the Grens' fourth pitcher, earned a victory after tossing 2 scoreless innings.
