Albania midfielder Xhaka injured during Basel title win

BASEL, Switzerland (AP) - Swiss champion Basel says Albania midfielder Taulant Xhaka has a leg injury and will be out of action for "several weeks."

Basel announced the news on its website Wednesday, less than six weeks before Albania opens its European Championship program against Switzerland.

Xhaka could play against his younger brother, Granit, in that match in Lens, France.

Born in Basel to a Kosovar-Albanian family, Taulant Xhaka played for Swiss national youth teams before choosing to represent Albania at senior level.

Both brothers could in future be eligible to play for Kosovo, which should be accepted as a FIFA member next week.

Basel says Xhaka injured a muscle in his left thigh on Saturday, early in a 2-1 win over Sion which sealed a seventh straight Swiss league title.
