'Friday Nights Live!' entertainment coming to Des Plaines

Des Plaines' Friday downtown farmers market will be replaced this summer by a 10-week series of entertainment and activities in Metropolitan Square, city officials announced.

"Friday Nights Live!" begins June 24, featuring a mix of live jazz, blues, dueling pianos, cooking demonstrations, comedians, improvisational comedy sketches, theatrical performances, storytelling, craft projects for kids and pop-up art exhibits, officials said.

The city, library and Des Plaines Arts Council is booking the entertainment, which will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. every week, weather permitting.

Since a portion of the square is closed to through traffic, it will accommodate tables, umbrellas, chairs and a performance stage.
