Music notes: Off the Trax packs 3 nights of tunes

<h3 class="briefHead">Off the Trax rolls into Edison Park</h3>

After the success of last year's North by Northwest Highway Music Fest, Edison Park is rolling out a shiny new name for this festival season: Off the Trax. Four area establishments - Emerald Isle, 6686 N. Northwest Hwy.; Firewater Saloon, 6689 N. Oliphant Ave.; Edison Park Inn, 6715 N. Olmsted Ave.; and Moretti's, 6727 N. Olmsted Ave. - are hosting the three-day Off the Trax festival, which features more than 45 local and regional bands flooding the neighborhood with rock, blues, country and pop. Individual shows - which start at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6, and 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7 - are $3. You can also go show-hopping for a night for $5 Thursday and Friday or $10 Saturday. <h3 class="briefHead">Get a taste of Spring Jam</h3>

Get ready for an eclectic mix of local music with Mackey's Hideout's 12th annual Spring Jam this weekend. The festival kicks off Friday, May 6, with progressive bluegrass and roots rock from McHenry's Miles Over Mountains, the Leadfoot Band, Still Shine and The Trevor Clark Trio. Saturday's lineup injects a psychedelic funk and a dance-rock vibe with Soap, Thinner Teed, Chachuba and Algonquin's Captain Coopersmith. Mackey's Hideout, 2601 S. Chicago's own R&B artist R. Kelly is coming back to town. According to reports from recent shows on the tour, Kelly serves up his "The Buffet" tour complete with a live band, videos and medleys of his most-loved hits.
