Softball: Trevino's 2-homer effort lifts Warren past Lake Zurich

Sabrina Trevino homered twice and drove in 7 runs, as Warren's softball team beat visiting Lake Zurich 14-2 in North Suburban Lake Division action on Saturday morning.

Trevino, who finished 3-for-3, hit a 2-run shot and 3-run shot. Julienne Egofske also homered for Warren (12-9, 6-1), going 4-for-4 with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. The Blue Devils received offensive contributions as well from Claire Swedberg (2-for-4), Grace Magnuson (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI) and Crystal Pennell (double).

Winning-pitcher Sage Staronowicz pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing 1 earned run, striking out eight and walking four.

Amanda Guercio had a double for Lake Zurich.

Wauconda sweeps Grayslake Central: The visiting Bulldogs captured both games of the nonconference doubleheader, winning 9-0 in the opener and 11-6 in the second game to improve to 13-5.

In Game 1, Kayla Wedl (8-2) pitched a seven-inning one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks. The only hit she allowed was a single to Teagan Truskowski.

Wedl also homered, doubled and knocked in 3 runs. The Bulldogs got two-hit games as well from Kayla Serio, Taylor McCarthy (2 RBI), Mallory Carver and Alex Steffens. Sarah Ricci had a single and 2 RBI.

Serio improved to 5-2 in the second game, walking five and striking out three, and the freshman also homered and doubled. Wedl and Steffens had doubles as well.

Grayslake Central got doubles from Morgan Smigielski and Kaci Snyder.

For the day, Steffens and Ricci each had 5 hits for Wauconda.

Palatine 4, Grant 2: Erin Bengston and Kenzie Sancken were both 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs in their nonconference loss.

Megan Chapman had a single and 2 RBI for Grant. Sydney Goessele allowed just 2 earned runs in 7 innings, striking out five and not walking a batter.
